T20 WC 2026: IND vs SA – Players From the 2024 Final Who Will Take the Field This Weekend

Several players in the present World Cup squad have been carried over from the previous squad

It’s time for a rematch! The finalists of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, India and South Africa, are set to face each other in their first Super 8 match of the ongoing tournament. To be honest, we expect the game to mimic the ambience and aura of the final because several players from that night will take the field this weekend.

Ahead of the game, let us look at those players from both dugouts.

India’s then vs. now

From India’s 2024 final playing XI, players such as Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah are in the ongoing World Cup squad.

The final of 2024 had witnessed Axar Patel and Shivam Dube score 47 and 27 runs, respectively, but unfortunately, Suryakumar Yadav made only three runs – hopefully, in the coming game, he will get a better outcome.

Two years ago, Pandya was also the star with the ball, grabbing three wickets, whereas Singh and Bumrah had grabbed two wickets each. Axar Patel had also joined the bandwagon with one wicket, but Kuldeep Yadav did not have much luck.

How’s 2026 going?

As of now, after the group stage, Yadav has 162 runs in four matches, but unfortunately, Pandya and Dube are nowhere in the top 20 of the runs table. Moving on to bowling, Axar Patel is the only one in the top 20 after the group stage with six wickets to his name in three matches.

South Africa’s then vs. now

From the South Africa 2024 final playing XI, the present squad has retained its core of seven players that include Aiden Markram, Quinton de Kock, David Miller, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, and Anrich Nortje.

On the night of the final, Keshav Maharaj and Anrich Nortje had grabbed two wickets each, whereas one wicket went to the books of Jensen and Rabada. Collectively, the team stopped India at 176 runs.

During the chase, Kock had scored 39 runs, followed by a crucial cameo from David Miller, who scored 21 runs on 17 balls. Miller was on the course to secure the World Cup for South Africa, but surprisingly, Suryakumar Yadav caught him out with a miraculous catch.

Run in 2026

From South Africa’s bowling department, Marcon Jensen, who also played the 2024 final, has done well so far with seven wickets in three matches. In terms of batting, Aiden Markram is absolutely on fire, having scored 178 runs in four matches so far.

On Sunday night, the South African players will try to rewrite the history books, whereas for the Men in Blue, it will be all about defending their trophy and throne.
