Six Neglected Things and Areas in Your Home That You Are Forgetting To Clean

Check out these things and spaces you often miss while cleaning your home.

Walking into a room and inspecting what things and spaces need cleaning is easy. Your dirty laundry is piling up and almost touching the ceiling, waiting to be washed; or the dirty pots and dishes in the kitchen sink cannot go unnoticed. After you have cleaned all the obvious things, do you neglect the rest of the room? Here are six things and spaces you are likely forgetting to clean.

Baseboards and Walls

Dirt and grime clings to both horizontal and vertical surfaces. Turn on the lights and check all your walls. Start from the ceiling and work your way down with a duster that traps dust particles. Clean away all stray marks or soil from around door knobs and light switches. Do not neglect your baseboards because a lot of dust deposits on those ledges. Use a damp cloth to wipe the switches.

Trash Cans

Trash cans are supposed to be dirty, but you should occasionally clean them. Use an all-purpose cleaner or baking soda and scrub the inside of the trash can to kill any mildew or bacteria. It will help remove foul odor for a while.

Mattress

You clean your pillows from time to time but mattresses need cleaning too. When neglected for too long, mattresses can become the breeding ground for dust mites and bacteria that cause allergies. So consider cleaning them at least once in six months. Start by vacuuming the surface and flipping it. You may also use a plastic cover to keep dust mites at bay.

Closet Floors

It is easy to notice when the closet requires cleaning. But we often miss out the closet floors–especially the carpeted ones–collect dirt and dust from the outside. The closet floor, if not cleaned, can become home for mildew and mold and pesky bugs like carpet beetles that can ruin your favorite garments. At least once every three months, pull out everything from your closet and clean it thoroughly.

Light Fixtures

We often neglect light fixtures on cleaning days. Light fixtures gather a lot of cobwebs and dust. For cleaning, use a soft microfiber cloth to gently wipe every light fixture. While cleaning, remember to clear all the furniture underneath to prevent the dust and debris from fall onto it.

Door Frames

Door frames are the common victims of negligence, and they collect a lot of dust and grime for being above eye level. You can use a microfiber or feather duster to reach the top of the door frames and wipe all the stubborn grease and spider webs.

Add these areas and things to your cleaning routine to leave your home looking spick and span.
