Red Bull Rewrites F1 History With 12 Consecutive Grand Prix Wins

Twelve races, one winner—Red Bull has set a new record in Formula One.

Formula One outfit Red Bull has created history in F1 by winning Sunday's Hungary Grand Prix. The Sunday race win was Red Bull's 12th consecutive race win, surpassing McLaren's previous record of 11.

Red Bull's wins

Of the 12 Grand Prix, Red Bull's Max Verstappen won the Bahrain, Australia, Miami, Monaco, Spain, Canada, Austria, Great Britain, and Hungary GPs. The other two GPs, i.e., the Saudi Arabia GP and the Azerbaijan GP, were won by Sergio Perez.

Horner's statement

Speaking about the achievement to Sky F1, team principal Christian Horner said, "We achieved history today. It's something very special for the whole team, to achieve the record of 12 consecutive grand prix victories."

"To break that record from 1988 — I remember watching Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost and the great McLaren team, at the time led by Ron Dennis. To think it's taken 35 years but we're the team that's managed to break that, particularly with the quality opposition that we're racing against, is a phenomenal achievement and one that the whole team can be just immensely, immensely proud of," he added.

Verstappen's record

While Red Bull has already set a record, Verstappen has the opportunity to set a new one this season. So far, the Dutch racer has won seven consecutive Grand Prix. The driver with the most consecutive race wins is former F1 driver Sebastian Vettel, with nine wins.

If Verstappen wins the next three consecutive GPs, he will be the new record holder in Formula 1.

Last but not least, Verstappen leads the drivers' championship with 281 points, whereas compatriot Perez holds the second spot with 171 points. Alonso is still in third place with 139 points, whereas Lewis Hamilton has closed the gap with 133 points in fourth place.
