One Day: A Brilliant Saga – why you should watch it

Looking for something good to watch? If you are somebody who loves romance and coming-of-age stories, Netflix’s new latest romantic hit, One Day is an excellent option, that you could opt for! Though initially, it was a film made in 2011, featuring Anne Hathaway, and Jim Sturgess, it has recently been made into an OTT show.  Set over 14 episodes, and directed by Nicole Taylor, this show is based on a book, of the same name. It traces an incredibly intimate story of two friends, Dexter Mayhew (played by Leo Woodall) and Emma Morley (played by Ambika Mod) who met on their graduation night, at the University of Edinburgh. The rest of the series follows the development of a beautiful friendship/conflict and the blossoming of love between the two. Here are some reasons why you could consider seeing it!

Excellent Acting

One of the major reasons why this show remains brilliant from start to finish is the fabulous acting on stage. Not only Mod and Woodall, but all the others as well, Amber Grappy as Tilly, Essie Davis as Alison, and Elenor Tomlinson as Sylvie, though smaller roles play their roles with amazing tenacity! It makes the storyline even more interesting, and makes you want to keep watching!

Very relatable storylines

One more thing about this show, which will cause the viewer to love it even more, is that the storyline is truly, extremely realistic, and relatable. As a result, it becomes more important, and relevant, especially for those who are in this age of 20s and 30s. It entails a story of friendships, confusions about love, tragedies, finding one’s way in life and the strength and value of enduring friendships through it all. It, therefore, amazingly resonates with reality! As Gen-Z has begun to experiment with the process of dating, though faithful to the earlier text, it is something which is surprisingly up to-date, and the character developments are very interesting. These are the kind of romances, that we always hope to see, but only a few can deliver it as perfectly!

Unpredictable

One of the things that keeps us going and hooked to this show, is how unpredictable it is. You never know, what will happen in each episode (unless of course, you have already read the book or watched the film, in which case, it might be fun to explore it in a new form again!). But for novices, the story remains unpredictable. At times you expect intimacy, but you don’t get it. As the series traces them through the years, one never knows if they are going to fight, whether they are going to confess their love for each other, and give in to a tension building up, or if it's going to be another beautiful day, well-spent with a friend! These tensions, and ruptures, keep it going and the plot interesting. As a result, it is unstoppable, and one is constantly asking, what happens next?

Their chemistry is the best thing

One of the things that is loveable is the chemistry that these two have going on, which is perfect, which makes both of them so adorable to watch, and so heartwarming to see! It sends a message to people about the value of friendship, love and all things beautiful! Alternatively, it is heartbreaking, when they aren’t engaging with each other or fighting. Yet. the chemistry and need to be bound to each other is still there. Their chemistry is there right from the first to the end, and makes this show even more exciting!
