Mumbai Becomes Asia's Billionaire Capital: Top 10 Global Epicenters of Wealth

According to Hurun Global Rich List 2024, there are 3279 billionaires in the world, adding 167 more from the last year.

The report has confirmed Mumbai as Asia's billionaire capital for the first time. Mumbai currently hosts 92 billionaires. Globally, Mumbai is ranked third. In this article, we will discuss about top 10 wealth epicenters of the world.

San Francisco:

With 52 billionaires, San Francisco holds the 10th position in the list. The city lost 2 billionaires from the last year. Airbnb cofounder Brian Chesky is a resident of San Francisco.

New Delhi:

India's capital New Delhi hosts 57 billionaires, securing 9th position in the list. The city gained 18 more billionaires from the last year. Indian billionaires including software service providers, HCL Technologies cofounder Shiv Nadar, Haldiram Snacks owner Manohar Lal Agarwal live in this city.

Moscow:

Russian capital is at the 8th position of the prestigious Hurun Global Rich List with 59 billionaires. Since 2023, the city gained 2 more billionaires. Vladimir Potanin, Vladimir Lisin, Dmitry Pumpyansky, Roman Trotsenko are some of the Russian billionaires who stay in Moscow.

Hong Kong:

With 65 billionaires, residing here, Hong Kong holds the 7th position. It has lost 12 billionaires from the last year. Billionaires including Zhao Tongtong and Lawrence Ho are the residents of Hong Kong.

Shenzhen:

The connecting city between China and Hong Kong, Shenzhen is at 6th position with 84 billionaires. It has lost 10 billionaires from the last year. Telecoms hardware firm Huawei Technologies owner Ren Zhengfei and CEO of internet giant Tencent, Ma Huateng live in Shenzhen.

Shanghai:

16 billionaires from Shanghai lost position in this year's report. Currently, Shanghai has 87 billionaires, ranked 5th globally. Billionaires including founder of autonomous driving startup ZongMu Technology Tang Rui, CEO of Shanghai Chicmax Cosmetic; Colin Zheng Huang live in Shanghai.

Beijing:

China's capital Beijing has 91 billionaires, losing 18 from the last year's count. Beijing is ranked 4th in the global list and 2nd in Asia. The founder of TikTok-owner ByteDance, Zhang Yiming lives here.

Mumbai:

This year, Mumbai became Asia's billionaire capital for the first time. This city hosts 92 billionaires, as per the recently published report. Last year, Mumbai had only 67 billionaires. The total wealth of billionaires in Mumbai stands at $445 billion, a whopping 47% increase from 2023. Reliance industries owner Mukesh Ambani and Adani group's Gautam Adani are the main players here.

London:

With a total of 97 billionaires, London holds the second position in the global list of billionaire capital. London has gained 10 more billionaires than the last year. Billionaires like James Dyson, Hinduja family, Richard Branson live in London.

New York City:

New York City holds the topmost position in global list of billionaire capital with 119 billionaires. The city has gained 14 billionaires from the last year's count. Billionaires including Michael Bloomberg, Julia Koch, Stephen Schwarzman, Rupert Murdoch live in the wealthiest city in the world.

Key Findings:

Hurun Report chairman and chief researcher Rupert Hoogewerf said, “The number of known billionaires in the world is up 5% to just under 3300. AI has been the major driver for wealth growth, generating over half of all the new wealth this year.”

“Billionaires made their wealth in financial services (10%), followed by consumer goods (8%), and food & beverages (7%) and real estate (7%),” the report added.

Nearly a quarter of the world’s billionaires live in these cosmopolitan cities. Their combined wealth stands around $3 trillion.
