King Charles reached Germany on Wednesday for his first overseas visit as the UK monarch, but he was taken by surprise.
Britain's King Charles arrived in Germany on Wednesday for his maiden international trip since succeeding to the monarch's throne. But guess what? He was in for a surprise coronation when a royal fan tried to offer him a Burger King crown made of paper while the UK monarch was greeting people.
It all happened when King Charles and Queen Camilla came out in Berlin to greet the spectators, and plenty of onlookers had donned paper crowns in the crowd on the streets. However, when one royal fan offered him a paper crown with the American fast-food chain's name printed on it, the 74-year-old Charles turned him down and moved ahead to greet others. The man who had offered the crown, however, was not disheartened and laughed instead.
Videos of the funny exchange were posted widely on Twitter. As seen in one clip, the British King was shaking hands with the spectators when a man offered to give him a Burger King crown by saying, "This is for you if you want it.” To which King Charles replied by smiling, "No, I am alright."
On his first overseas visit, King Charles was given a ceremonial welcome by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and they were joined by Frau Elke Budenbender at Berlin's Brandenburg Gate. King Charles, while highlighting the "generosity of spirit of the German people", offered a tribute to the nation's hospitality that hosted a million Ukrainian refugees.
King Charles acceded to the British throne shortly after his mother and the longest-serving member of the British monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, passed away on September 9, 2022.
