Aamir Khan claims that Atul Kulkarni's brilliant adaptation of ‘Forrest Gump’ was what had inspired him to make ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’.
Aamir Khan is all set to return to the silver screen with his upcoming film 'Laal Singh Chaddha', which co-stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Mona Singh, and Chaitanya Akkineni. The actor has been keeping the audience hooked with a series of events centeredaround the film's trailers and teasers.
The film is an official remake of 1994 classic film 'Forrest Gump', which starred Tom Hanks in the lead role. Now ahead of the film’s release, Aamir said that it was Atul Kulkarni's brilliant adaptation of the classic Hollywood film that had inspired him to make ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’.
He further added, "Two weeks later, he called me up and said, ''I have written a screenplay for you. So, I said, 'But you don't write'. He replied, 'Yeah. But I have tried to write and I have written it.' I asked: 'In two weeks?' And he said, 'Yes'. He said, 'I have written an adaptation of 'Forest Gump'.'”
Aamir further revealed that at first, he had started laughing because he thought that a classic like ‘Forrest Gump’ couldn’t be remade.
"So, I didn't take it very seriously. It was my folly actually that I didn't take it seriously. I didn't hear it until two years (had passed). The day I heard Atul's narration, I just fell in love with it. I found it so beautifully done. How can something like 'Forrest Gump', which is so deeply rooted in American culture be made in any other culture?, I could not understand. But Atul showed me how. It was Atul's adaptation that made me do it," Aamir asserted.
However, amid the anticipation surrounding its theatrical release, the actor has made it clear that he is in no particular hurry to stream the movie on OTT.
