Kevin Pietersen praises CSK captain MS Dhoni: He is inspiring. You want to play well for him

Kevin Pietersen recalled a conversation he had with MS Dhoni during the time they both played for Rising Pune SuperGiants.

Former England captain Kevin Pietersen recently recalled his conversation with MS Dhoni from the time they both were at Rising Pune SuperGiants. Claiming how Dhoni got really emotional while talking about his return to Chennai Super Kings, Pietersen termed Dhoni an inspiring person, who cares so much for the team.

The CSK team, which faced their six-wicket loss at the hands of Kolkata Knight Riders, gave a lap of appreciation for their home fans at the Chepauk Stadium. Speaking post that to Star Sports, Pietersen said, “He is inspiring. You want to play well for him. You want to be the best version of himself in a team that he is captaining. We have seen that for many years. He cares so much and when the captain cares so much, everybody starts to feel it. It resonates.”

He further mentioned how Dhoni is an incredible person off the field as well. He also spoke about how the CSK players threw signed tennis balls and jerseys to the fans in Chennai. “Look at the people who have stayed back to see, to try and touch him because of the person that he is. He is also an incredible human being away from the cricket field. These are wonderful scenes, hugely emotional seasons. This is such a fabulous gesture,” Pietersen added.

Not just that, the player also recalled the chat he had with Dhoni during their time playing for Pune. For the unversed, Dhoni was part of the Pune franchise in the 2016 and 2017 seasons due to CSK’s suspension from the IPL.

“When Chennai had a break (suspension) for a couple of years, I played with MS at the Rising Pune Supergiant. When the opportunity presented itself to go back to Chennai, he was so emotional because that was the only place he wanted to play. The only place he wants to be involved. He has so much love for this ground, this city and this franchise. He got really emotional and it means so much,” Pietersen said.

After witnessing loss against KKR, CSK will turn their focus towards Delhi Capitals. The two teams would play at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on May 20.
