The former champions also find a place on this unfortunate list
Given that the Indian Premier League (IPL) has evolved to become one of the most popular domestic sporting tournaments in the world, every team does its best not to become the first team to get eliminated. Unfortunately, one team every year becomes the first to be kicked out of the competition. In the following paragraphs, let us look at the IPL teams that have been eliminated first in multiple seasons.
Deccan Chargers, the champions of 2009, which went defunct after the 2012 edition, is the team that got eliminated first on three occasions. In the inaugural season of the IPL, Deccan Chargers was the first team to get eliminated from the tournament. That season, the team only scored four points from 14 matches, winning only two but losing 12.
Three years and one IPL trophy later in 2011, Deccan Chargers once again became the first time to get eliminated from the tournament despite finishing in the seventh position out of ten teams. In 14 matches, Deccan Chargers lost eight matches and scored only 12 points.
The following year, in 2012, the Deccan Chargers once again became the first team to be eliminated from the tournament. The team finished in eighth place out of nine teams and scored only nine points, losing 11 out of 16 matches, whereas one match ended in a tie. 2012 also turned out to be the last year for Deccan Chargers as the team was put on for sale.

One of the most shocking names on the list is Mumbai Indians. The team with five IPL titles have been eliminated first from the tournament on two occasions.
In 2022, Mumbai Indians were the first to get eliminated after the team lost 10 games out of 14, winning only four and scoring eight points. This was also the first time when Mumbai Indians finished at the bottom of the table.
In the ongoing IPL season, Mumbai Indians became the first team to get eliminated after losing 10 matches out of 14, scoring only eight points from four wins. The Mumbai’s management and new captain Hardik Pandya have been heavily blamed for the team’s poor performance and early exit.
Not to mention, given that the Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are arch-rivals with IPL trophies each, the incidents have put the Mumbai Indians behind the Chennai Super Kings because the Yellow Army has never finished at the bottom. However, the Dhoni-led team became the first team to be eliminated in 2020.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru are the last team to have been eliminated first from the tournament in more than one season. In 2017, the team finished at the bottom of the table with only three names to its name, whereas in 2019, the team finished at the bottom with only five wins out of 14.
