The two sides have played only six matches against each other, which have witnessed four controversies, ranging from minor to major
On Friday evening, i.e., April 24, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will take on the Gujarat Titans (GT), with the former in third place on the IPL table and the latter in sixth, separated by only two points. Therefore, the upcoming game could result in a significant clash between the two teams, considering that four out of their six previous matches have involved some form of controversy.

When the two sides met for the first time in the IPL (Indian Premier League) on April 30, 2022, Matthew Wade was given an LBW (leg before wicket) out after a review, although there was a debate on the inside edge. Matthew Wade was deeply upset by the decision and vented his frustration in the dressing room, throwing his helmet and bat onto the floor. For his outburst, he was reprimanded under Article 2.5 of the Code of Conduct. Despite the decision that went against GT, the Titans won the game against RCB by six wickets.
Online ab*se
There’s always a section of so-called fans in India who often cross the line. On May 21, 2023, when GT defeated RCB and ensured their exit from the tournament, it was specifically Shubman Gill’s century that led to GT’s victory and RCB’s exit. For Gill’s century, a section of RCB fans not only ab*sed him online but also his sister, who has no connection to the IPL or the teams.
Extremely shameful to see trollers abusing #ShubhmanGill’s sister just because the team they follow lost a match. Previously we had initiated action against people abusing #ViratKohli daughter. DCW will take action against all those who have abused Gill’s sister as well. This… pic.twitter.com/eteGtGgPVm

Chairperson of Delhi Commission for Women, or DCW, Swati Maliwal strongly reacted to the incident by stating, “Extremely shameful to see trollers ab*sing #ShubhmanGill’s sister just because the team they follow lost a match. Previously we had initiated action against people ab*sing #ViratKohli daughter…”
Flying kiss
In 2024, during a game, Virat Kohli dismissed Shahrukh Khan with a brilliant direct-throw run-out. However, his flying kiss send-off did not sit well with many fans and GT players. Fortunately, the incident did not get Kohli into trouble, and there was also a debate about whether the gesture was intended for Anushka Sharma, who was in the stands, rather than for Shah Rukh Khan. Nonetheless, the tiny moment drew attention from the crowd and social media users.

Last season, after GT defeated RCB, Shubman Gill made a cryptic post that read “Eyes on the game, not the noise” on X. Many pointed out that the post was directed toward Virat Kohli, who made noise and celebrated aggressively after Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed Gill in the game.
