Hyundai Tests Wagon Variant of Verna in Russia

The sedan variant of the new-generation Verna is scheduled for an Indian launch on March 21.

The Indian branch of South Korean car manufacturer Hyundai is set to launch the next-generation Verna on March 21 in the country. The news of its launch date, leaked features and pictures have already gone viral. Now, another variant of the Verna is grabbing headlines. Recently, a test mule of Verna’s wagon variant was spotted in Russia, and the internet simply cannot keep calm.

Mule’s details

According to media outlet Rushlane, the fascia of the wagon is similar to the sedan variant of the Verna sedan, with a parametric grille and a wide LED bar covering the entire grille. Reflector LED headlights have been carried over as well.

The C-pillar is also identical to the sedan, and that is the point from which the mule changes its stance to become a wagon. The extended roofline is evident, but the rear fascia is also similar to the Verna sedan. The mule does have a bit of an SUV stance, but that is due to its higher ground clearance and snow tyres.

The missing ADAS module also shows that Hyundai is planning to cut costs. On the other hand, the wagon is likely to feature the same engine from the sedan, i.e., a 1.5-litre MPi naturally aspirated petrol mil with 113bhp and 144Nm of power figures, along with an optional 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with 158bhp and 260Nm of outcome.

Wagon’s poor history in India

Although wagons are quite famous in North America and Europe, India as a country has never welcomed wagons with open arms. For example, wagons such as Indigo Marina, Telco Estate, and several others failed to make a mark in India.

In recent years, we have also seen the failure of the Volvo V90 Cross Country and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain. As of now, the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo is the only wagon purchasable in India.
