Since the hair is special with those round locks, it needs extra care
To maintain good hair in itself is a great deal. But unlike people with straight hair, curly locks are highly difficult to manage. Unlike straight hair, curly locks tend to appear rough, dry, and lack moisture. And no matter how much oiling, conditioning and moisturizing it can be subjected too, the curls require a lot more attention than we thought.
Curly hair people tend to have more oval or asymmetrical follicles, which is influenced by your hair follicles. These bends, curves, coils, twists, and turns, make the hair fragile and delicate. So much so that the natural oil produced by the scalp takes time to travel from top to bottom. The reason curly hair has low levels of moisture.
Pre-shampoo treatment: For curly hair, it is often recommended by experts to indulge your curly locks in pre-shampoo treatment. Unlike the conventional belief of applying the conditioner after washing, you can use a conditioner both before and after shampoo. The idea of using a conditioner before shampoo is that it helps protect the hair strand from being ripped off its natural oils.
Limiting shampooing: For people with curly hair shampooing your hair every day is a complete no. since curly hair is typically dry it doesn’t need washing as often as straight hair. Also, shampooing too frequently can dry the hair making it more damaged and frizzier. Try and shampoo the curls not more than twice a week. Most importantly remember to use cold water as it will help you retain the moisture, strength and helps seal the hair cuticle.
Never brush the curls For curly hair, it is always best to comb before shampoo to avoid hard entangles. But always resist the urge to brush curly hair and instead use a wide-toothed comb before shampooing. And after washing, simply run your fingers through your hair. Remember to never brush wet hair as it is more prone to breakage and damage.
In case you need to, always comb from the bottom up. Detangling from the bottom up gently detangles each knot, rather than yanking it through. Using a wide-tooth comb doesn't disrupt the natural curl pattern.
Protect your hair during sleep For textured hair, the cotton fabric is far too harsh for the delicate strands as cotton soaks up the hair’s natural oils while we sleep depriving the strands of natural moisture. Try wrapping your hair in a silk scarf or sleeping on a silk pillowcase. This will help preserve the curl pattern and reduce the friction they are exposed to.
So while lather-rinse-repeat is for the rest of the hair type, for curly locks the hair care routine is a bit extravagant and completely different.
