In the third match of IPL 2014, Kings XI Punjab, now Punjab Kings, went all out against Chennai Super Kings and managed to chase down the target of 206. Chennai Super Kings batted first and it was courtesy of a brilliant opening partnership between Dwayne Smith and Brendon McCullum that they were at 123 for no loss in the 13th over at one point.
Smith scored 63 off 43 deliveries with the help of 6 fours and 3 sixes at a strike rate of 153.49. Brendon McCullum matched him shot for shot, making 67 runs from 45 deliveries at a strike rate of 148.89. Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni then played cameos to help Chennai score in excess of 200.
