Heatwave, Rainfall, & Snowfall All at Same Time: Surprising Diversity of Indian Climate in 2024

Heatwave, rainfall, and snowfall all at the same time, Indian climate is showing peculiar diversity which needs special attention.

Climate-wise, India is a diverse nation, where one part is facing extreme heatwave, another part is facing rainfall and snowfall. It was earlier predicted that heatwaves will let Indians suffer a lot in 2024 summer. Along with this, several parts are going through rainfall and even snowfall! It's strange but true!

Indian climate is exceptionally unique with around six climatic subtypes, ranging from arid desert in the west (Rajasthan) to alpine tundra in the north (Himalayan region).

In this article, we will discuss about surprising diversity of Indian climate this summer.

IMD Prediction on Heatwave:

IMD Senior Scientist Dr Naresh Kumar told ANI, “In Delhi, our estimate is that the temperature is expected to remain around 38 degrees Celsius in the coming 2-3 days. After this, it may increase slowly by 1-2 degrees and with it, there is a possibility of light rain tomorrow...At present, if you talk about Eastern India, the temperature has reached 44 degrees Celsius in 1-2 stations. In the next 4-5 days, the temperature can reach 44 degrees Celsius in Eastern India, and in Northwest India, there is no hope of it being near 40 or more than 41 degrees Celsius.”

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted: “severe heatwave conditions in isolated pockets of Odisha on Friday and in Gangetic West Bengal until April 22.”

States Facing Heatwave:

According to IMD: “The national capital witnessed a maximum temperature of 39.4°C on Friday, marking a three-notch increase from the seasonal average. This marks the highest recorded maximum temperature in Delhi so far this summer.”

The IMD recorded a four to six degrees Celsius rise in temperature in northern, southern and eastern states since the last week.

As per PTI, due to intense heatwave, Odisha saw its first death due to sunstroke on last Friday. Eastern part of India will be facing extreme heatwave in coming days. Heatwave conditions are predicted to continue in Bihar and Jharkhand in this week.

There is no heatwave in southern states (Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Kerala) currently, but a ‘Hot and Humid’ weather warning has been issued in these states.

High temperatures along with low humidity are predicted to create challenges including dehydration, and heatstroke more in coming two months.

States to Face Rainfall:

What can provide you the relief from extreme heatwave? The answer is rainfall! Meanwhile, IMD has issued an update of heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and lightning in Northeastern and adjoining parts (Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, and Tripura) of India. Even Delhi might face rainfall in this week. However, this is just a temporary relief!

States with Snowfall:

What if I tell you one state is receiving unprecedented snowfall even in this summer? That's what is happening in Himachal Pradesh.

Normal life is disrupted in this state from last week due to snowfall and rainfall. It blocked over 104 roads as per officials.

“The vehicular movement to Keylong was suspended due to a massive landslide at the Selfie Point near Sissu on Manali- Keylong highway,” officials said.

Famous tourist spots like Shimla, Reckong Peo, Dalhousie, Kalpa, Solan are receiving both rainfall and snowfall. Thus, Indians are preferring to visit these cold places.

Farmers are a worried there due to stormy conditions. Even hailstorms are extremely harmful for apple and wheat crop.

Based on your location, taking essential precaution is a must in such diverse climatic conditions.
