Sonakshi Sinha, who turns 38 on June 2 this year, is the daughter of Poonam and Shatrughan Sinha. Before making her debut with Dabangg in 2010, she worked as a costume designer in independent films. After being applauded in Dabangg, she went on to star in several films, including Son of Sardaar (2012), Dabangg 2 (2012), Lootera (2013), Mission Mangal (2019) and more. Recently, she gained love from the audience and critics alike for her OTT hits, Dahaad (2023) and Heeramandi (2024).

On her special day, let’s take a look at her top 5 roles that prove she is more than just a star kid on the block.

Lootera

The film, set in 1953, explores the relationship between Sonakshi’s character Pakhi. an aristocrat's daughter, who falls in love with an archaeologist, played by Ranveer Singh. However, he leads a double life that is unknown to her. The Vikramaditya Motwane masterpiece, partially based on O. Henry's short story 'The Last Leaf', remains one of Sonakshi's best works till date, and seeing her on screen is nothing short of watching a poetry in motion.

Dabangg series

With Dabangg, which came out in 2010, Sonakshi made her foray into Bollywood. While Salman Khan played the titular cop Chulbul Pandey, Sonakshi played his love interest Rajjo. And to say the least, Sonakshi captivated the audience despite Salman Khan’s presence in this masala entertainer series.

Akira

The film, though commercially not successful, stars Sonakshi as Akira Sharma, who witnesses a group of men throwing acid on a woman's face. While she aids the police in catching one of the criminals, she ends up getting harassed by the accused who gives her a scar instead. Sonakshi played the part with finesse and turned self-reliant to fight for women's safety. It was one of the films where she played the protagonist and led the story throughout.

Dahaad

Sonakshi Sinha's first OTT outing, Dahaad, got fabulous response from the audience. The show saw Sonakshi as the protagonist cop Anjali Bhaati, who investigates a series of women deaths in public bathrooms. When she realises that there's a serial killer on the loose, she makes sure to leave no stone unturned to catch him, and Sonakshi held his fort in the thriller, co-starring Sohum Shah, Gulshan Devaiah and Vijay Varma.

Mission Mangal

Sonakshi starred as Eka Gandhi in the film, which is an inspiring story of a group of all women scientists at ISRO. It showcases how these women deal with their personal and professional hassles while working towards their only motive, the Mars Orbiter Mission. Sonakshi proved to be a breath of fresh air in the ensemble cast, including Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari and Nithya Menen.
