From La La Land to Zombieland: Emma Stone’s Most Memorable Performances

A struggling actress, a Queens favorite, and an apocalypse survivor Emma Stone has varied brilliant roles under her name.

Emma Stone got her Oscar at the age of 28. That was the time she was awarded for her acting chops. Before that, she was disappearing in every role she played; and she played them well. From lending her voice for animated movies to double-tapping zombies in an apocalypse, Emma Stone's performance is heartfelt, sincere, and remarkable.

Listing below are some of Stone's most memorable roles.

La La Land

Emma Stone stars as the struggling actress in pursuit of the big Hollywood dream of living in Los Angeles. Stone won her Academy for this role. The audition scene where she performs Fools Who Dream is raw and shows the range of her acting chops. Her onscreen chemistry with Ryan Gosling as they sing and dance, fall in love, and pursue their dreams is what makes this movie and her performance a great one.

The Favourite

Starring as Abigail Masham alongside Olivia Coleman and Rachel Weisz, The Favourite, showcases the rivalry between Sarah Churchill and Abigail. Abigail works as a scullery maid in houses of nobility but ascends in rank by gaining sympathy from Queen Anne. In the words of Stone, the character she portrays is a survivor and Stone plays it really well.

The Help

Emma Stone plays the role of Skeeter Phelan, a strong-willed individual who unravels the working conditions in the South of America, set during the movement. Stone takes on this feminist character who is willing to go up against all odds, including family and friends, to pursue what seems right.

Zombieland

Set in a zombie post-apocalyptic world where survival is everything against flesh-eating undead, Stone plays the role of Wichita, elder sister to Little Rock, and the sister duo is smart, tough and is not afraid to use their innocence and vulnerability to gather ammunition, food, vehicles. It is a horror-comedy and Stone stars alongside Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, and Abigail Breslin.

Crazy, Stupid Love

The movie has been talked about enough. Before La La Land, Stone and Gosling starred in this movie alongside Steve Carell. Starring as Hannah, daughter to a recently divorced Cal Weaver, Stone's connection with co-stars is noteworthy. The comedy movie was considered one of the best movies of that year.

Birdman

Birdman was a brilliant movie and Emma Stone played her character Sam with such emotional vulnerability only few can manage. She has issues and she deals with them. Sam is a recovering drug addict and daughter to a Broadway star played by Michael Keaton. She isn't afraid to speak the truth including telling her father the truth he doesn't want to accept.
