Directors are the ones who cast their magic behind the lens, but what happens when they shine enormously in a movie directed by someone else? A director is the backbone of the movie. We all watch his imagination come alive through the artists. Most of the time, they spend their time behind the lens, but sometimes directors are actively involved in many other aspects of the film like writing, editing, and sometimes even acting their own movies. Directors like John Landis, Alfred Hitchcock, Subhash Ghai loved to be a part of their movie in cameos. But many a time, some of the talented directors were not directing their movie instead, they were acting in a movie directed by someone else. In the year 1999, he made a war movie laced with satire called “Three Kings”. The movie starred some of the most talented actors of Hollywood such as George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg. The movie also starred rapper Ice Cube in a pivotal role, but the true showstopper of the movie was Spike Jonze, director of the classic movie “Being John Malkovich”. He played the role of simpleton Conrad Vig was the highlight of the movie. Quentin Tarantino, in the movie “From Dusk till Dawn” Quentin Tarantino changed the way movies were made forever and gave us some modern-day classics such as “Pulp Fiction”. He is known to appear on-screen in his own movies, but he played a major role in the horror extravaganza named “From Dusk till Dawn” by his long-time friend Robert Rodriguez. Starring along with George Clooney, Tarantino worked his charm in this horror/vampire flick. Tigmanshu Dhulia in the movie “Gangs of Wasseypur” Gangs of Wasseypur is without a doubt India’s answer to The Godfather. With a stellar star cast and some unforgettable characters, Gangs of Wasseypur have acquired cult status in the history of Indian cinema. But one character who captured the imagination of the audience from the start till the end was Ramadhir Singh, played effortlessly by director Tigmanshu Dhulia. After giving classics such as “Paan Singh Tomar”, “Haasil”, Tigmanshu Dhulia presented his acting prowess in the Anurag Kashyap’s cult classic. Other than these, directors such as Karan Johar, Werner Herzog, John Cassavetes has proved once again that a director can spin his magic not only behind the lens but in front of it too.
