Bharat Parv 2024: Planning To Attend The Grand Event At Delhi's Red Fort? Here's Your Quick Guide (Bharat Parv, Republic Day, Travel)

The Bharat Parv in New Delhi is a celebration of India's rich cultural diversity. 

The extravagant 'Bharat Parv' embodies what defines India best; unity in diversity. It is a melting pot of all the different cultures of the country and offers a stage where everything from art to commerce converges seamlessly. Whether it's the rich craftsmanship from each state, the irresistible aroma of delectable cuisines, or the cultural performances showcasing the country's rich heritage; it has something for everyone. 

Organized by the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, Bharat Parv is part of the Republic Day celebrations and takes place every year (since 2016) at the Lawns and Gyan Path in front of Red Fort, Delhi. This year, the event will start on January 23 and will continue till January 31. The event includes a Handicraft Mela, Folk and tribal dance performances, a food festival, a display of Republic Day tableaux, cultural performances, and the Illumination of the Red Fort among others. 

The nine-day event welcomes people from all walks of life to take part in it and learn about the diverse cultures of India. If you're planning to attend it this year, read ahead for a quick guide! 

What To Expect 

The primary objective of the ‘Bharat Parv’ is to help you understand India better. In each segment (such as the food festival, the Handicrafts Mela, etc.), there will be stalls from each Indian state, showcasing something that defines the state. There will be tableaux of states like Assam, Goa, Karnataka, Uttrakhand, Tripura, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir among others. 

As being held as part of Republic Day, the event will exude a sense of patriotism all around. There will be a flag hoisting ceremony on January 26th, alongside various activities that celebrate India's sovereignty. 

There will be many stalls selling traditional handicrafts, exquisite jewelry, and crafted textiles. There will be a variety of delectable food items (from West Bengal's Rasgulla to Bihar's Litti-Chhoka to Madhya Pradesh's special sharbat to Delhi's chaat to Tamil Nadu's Dosa and more), along with shows and seminars on the country's diverse culinary scene. The state pavilions will promote tourism of their respective state. 

A major highlight of the Bharat Parv event is its cultural celebration. From Bengal's Chhau to Kerala's Kathakali to North India's Classical Music and more; there will be various performances showcasing India's diverse cultural heritage. 

Major Activities At Bharat Parv 2024 

This year, Bharat Parv is going to be even bigger and better than its proceeding editions. There will be various activities for you, which you can choose from as per your preference. 

First, go shopping. It is a no-brainer that when you are at the Bharat Parv, your priority would be shopping at the Handicrafts Mela. And there are so many options that you cannot get enough of it. While shopping, you will get exposure to India's diverse culture as well. 

Secondly, enjoy the culinary delights. After shopping, head to the food festival and give your taste buds a treat. It is a treasure trove of food, offering a range of delicious food items from across the nation. For the best experience, start with street food (like gol gappa, kebabs, chaat, etc.), and then try some special items from different states, such as Telangana's Biryani, Kerala's curry, and West Bengal Luchi-Alur Dom. And for dessert, go for rasgulla, gulab jamun, and kulfi. 

Lastly, witness the cultural extravaganza. There will be art exhibitions which you can pay a visit to and appreciate. Besides, you can head to the center stage and see some cultural performances (such as music, play, and dance). And if you have some more time, do attend the workshops as well.
