The story revolves around the character Binodini, a widow who refuses to give in to the norms and slowly subverts the system. It beautifully explains the desire of a woman and her struggle to achieve that desire. With a magnificent star cast like Prosenjit Chatterjee, Aishwarya Rai, Tota Roy Chowdhury and Raima Sen it became a commercial hit as well as won the National Award for the best feature film in Bengali. Charulata When Tagore’s story met Satyajit Ray's direction a masterpiece was bound to happen. Charulata is a story of a lonely wife of a newspaper editor who falls in love with her visiting cousin-in-law, who shares her love for literature. The movie has a unique elegance and grace in it. Ray depicted the development of the characters with great insight and sensitivity and coaxed fine performances from his cast. It is a story of a poor, homesick Afghani who leaves his family behind to earn a living as a dried fruit seller in India. While selling it in a house in Calcutta he befriends a young girl who reminds him of his daughter. And from their hiss life got changed.
