History says that Bangladesh is no match for India, but the Men in Blue should not take them lightly
After defeating PAK on Sunday evening, India’s next target is Bangladesh in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025, a team that displayed a convincing victory against Sri Lanka and sits behind India in the Super Four stage table. Considering the history between the two sides, Bangladesh has never been a match for India. However, India’s border-sharing countries in the East have made a dent or two in India’s armour. Therefore, the Men in Blue must not lower their guard and take Bangladesh lightly.
Ahead of the game, let's delve into a bit of history between the two sides.
Head-to-head
As mentioned in the introductory paragraph, Bangladesh has never been a match for India in the Asia Cup, and the statistics prove this statement. Since 1988, when the two sides met for the first time in the Asia Cup, India and Bangladesh have played 15 games, with their last meeting taking place in 2023. Out of 15 games, the result went in India’s favour on 13 occasions, whereas Bangladesh managed only two wins. To be honest, there's really no rivalry between the neighbouring countries.

Out of the two games that went in Bangladesh’s favour, one took place in 2023 when Bangladesh put on board a score of 265 during a game in the Super Four stage. India, despite 121 from Shubman Gill and a quick 42 from Axar Patel, lost the game by inches. Bangladesh won the game by six runs, and therefore, the next meeting against Bangladesh for India will be all about revenge.

While India’s superiority is clear on the field, there’s a reason why Bangladesh cannot be taken lightly. They have not only reached the Super Four but also defeated Sri Lanka by four wickets and one ball to spare. Given PAK’s present form, it will not be a surprise if Bangladesh defeats PAK as well and reaches the final. On the other hand, it is essential for India to win the game because a win means a guaranteed seat in the Asia Cup finale.
Say no to buttery fingers

India has been brilliant with its batting and bowling so far in the tournament, toying with every opponent that has come its way. However, if there’s a place for criticism, it is India’s fielding. According to statistics circulating on the internet, India’s fielding efficiency stands at 71.4 per cent, only better than Sri Lanka and Hong Kong. As we all know, catches win matches; India must take care of its buttery fingers.
On a match day, result can go in anybody’s favour, but stats and history tell us that India is likely to win and move on to the finale.
