Cillian Murphy is an Irish actor who had set out as a singer but took upon acting. The 45-year-old started acting on the stage. It was after his performance as a volatile Cork teenager in Enda Walsh’s Disco Pigs that toured for two years that Murphy’s career took off as an actor. Cillian Murphy is also the recipient of various accolades and awards, including a nomination for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy and has an Irish Film and Television Award for Best Actor. Here is a list of a few of his films that you must not miss.

On The Edge

This 2001 Irish dark comedy film stars Tricia Vessey, Jonathan Jackson, and Stephen Rea, besides Cillian Murphy. The film tells the story of a suicidal young man, Jonathan Breech, essayed by Cillian Murphy. As the plot precedes, it follows Breech showing his stay in a Dublin psychiatric hospital where he meets new friends who are going forward greatly impact his life. This character of Murphy as Jonathan Breech was highly praised for effortlessly bringing to screen a multilayered unstable character with mental health issues. Yet retaining the comedy in the whole dark situation is outstanding.


This 2012 British coming-of-age drama film starring Eloise Laurence and Tim Roth, besides Cillian Murphy, is based on the 2008 novel of the same name by author Daniel Clay. The story of the film, just like the novel, follows a young girl’s involvement and the observations of several violent attacks in a British housing estate. And Murphy comes in with the character of Mike, the girl’s favourite teacher who is involved in a false case.

Free Fire

This 2016 British dark comedy-action film stars Jack Reynor, BabouCeesay, EnzoCilenti, and Sharlto Copley, besides Cillian Murphy and various others. Set in the 70s of Boston, the film starts on a black market weapons deal going drastically wrong. And Cillian Murphy essays the role of the buyer, Chris.
