Uttarakhand is rightly the land of misty Himalayas. From roaring rivers, serene forests and ancient temples, the state has it all. Undoubtedly, it is one of the most favourite states of most people, boasting of Shiva temples (Badrinath&Kedarnath), Nainital, Mussoorie, Haridwar, Rishikesh etc. However, there are some offbeat places in Uttarakhand too that you should explore if you visit there. We list down the top nine for you:


A beautiful place situated just about 27 kilometres from Nainital, this is a very peaceful place. The main Naukuchialake is very famous and it has 9 corners. You can head to the TRH (Tourist Rest House) and stay there as it is right behind the lake.


Famous for its Neem Karoli Baba Ashram which is situated on the banks of Kosiriver, Kakrighat is very famous and Swami Vivekanand also came here for meditation. You can stop here if you are driving towards Ranikhet, sip cups of tea and mesmerise yourself in the moment.


You must have heard about or visited Ranikhet, but you should definitely go to Shitlakhet which is 20 km from Ranikhet if you wish to relax and escape the chaotic city life. This place is perfect for a digital detox and also head to the famous Katarmal Sun Temple too, which is about 18 km from this little quaint village.


If you wish to perfectly enjoy the view of the beautiful Himalayas, the Nanda Devi peaks, Trishulparbat and other mountain peaks, head to Kausani. Also visit the famous writer Sumitra Nandan Pant’s home and also the ancient Baijnath Temple.


Chaukori is a beautiful village and it looks straight out of a fairytale. Surrounded by Himalayan peaks and dense forests, you should certainly check this place out.


It is an ancient cave temple and you need to climb 90 ft to reach the caves, which is actually Lord Shiva’s temple and has 33 koti Hindu Gods.


Lohaghat is famous for his haunted stories, specially the Mount Abbott where Dr. Morris Hospital is situated. However, if you visit this place, there are beautiful views to capture.


This one is a perfect place for a day picnic and you could sit next to the lake and eat, which is also a one of a kind experience.


Situated near the border of India and Nepal, Tanakpur has a village Brahmdev, and you can also visit the ghats of Tanakpur to get a glimpse of the mountains right across the river.
