Thinking of homeschooling your kids? Here’s why it may be a good idea.
If the pandemic has taught you that you can very well take care of your child’s educational needs, you can think of homeschooling your little ones. Here are some reasons why homeschooling rocks!
Flexibility
You can do whatever you want with your kids, whenever you want, whenever they're ready to return to school.
It's flexible with respect to job schedules – although practically, homeschooling only makes sense if one spouse isn't working full-time. There is no need to wait for the school year to finish in order to take a vacation, and you are free to prolong vacations as you see fit.
No transportation
Please allow me to restate that. There will be no morning school shuttles. This means adjusting bedtimes and wake-up times to better accommodate kids.
Guided by the interests of the child
This is arguably the most significant distinction between home and institutional schooling. Learning is more effective and enjoyable when it pertains to topics of personal interest. A kid doesn't have to keep up with the rest of the class, and you don't have to either.
DIY Timetable-making
If you don't want to, you don't have to use the standard national program. There's no requirement that you keep a 9-to-5 schedule. Your kid will be able to direct your teaching, leading to more effective education. Your child's newfound fascination with something from a movie or novel can be a springboard into a wealth of information. If you notice that your kid learns best between the hours of 3 and 6, you know when to schedule classes.
Aspects of a one-on-one setting that are beneficial
Teaching a single student allows you to cover more ground in less time. According to some home educators, a full day's worth of education can be completed in just two hours. The remainder of the time is yours to spend however you like.
Interactive
When a child has a question about something, they are much more likely to approach their adult instead of raising their hand in front of the whole class. However, keep in mind that this may prove difficult if your kids span a wide age range.
Improves self-esteem
If your kid has "uneven abilities," as one home-schooling parent put it, struggling in some areas while excelling in others, you can tailor their education to meet their needs and bolster their self-esteem.
