Costumes and Stage-makeup are the necessary processes to get into character when going on stage. You are obliged to maintain your character on the stage at all costs and convince your audience of a certain reality, within the unreal! Here are some tricks that they apply while doing their make-up that gives them a convincing appeal!

Grease Paint

Depending on your character and your context, you will have a particular complexion. Grease Paint is compulsory for this purpose. You get many shades. Depending on your character, their physical characteristics, and what would go with your complexion, you can choose a darker or lighter color. For best results, actors apply two layers, in between which they tap water upon their faces. Then they rub it in and blend it so it looks natural.

Highlighting the Nose

One of the tricks that a lot of actors use is applying a darker shade of grease paint upon their nose, than the one they used on their face to make it look sharper. As a result, their features look sharp on stage.

3 layers of Eye-shadow

This is hugely helpful to make somebody’s eyes radiant and visible on the stage. The first and third layers would be of a similar darker color and in the middle, usually, silver or golden shade is applied. Though this depends from character to character, this helps to make your face visible in the light!

Kajal

Along with this, kajal is an absolute necessity, and adds completeness to eye makeup. It makes the eyes more radiant, and therefore the actor’s eyes are made prominent on stage, which is very important.

Lipstick is a must, but just the rightamount

Highlighting lips is another necessity. However, depending on your character, and how you must look, lipstick must be lightened or darkened accordingly. Too much lipstick can give the wrong impression. However, no lipstick will lead to the light not reflecting your lips, which is detrimental. A balance has to be maintained!

Use face-glue to stick fake mustaches and beards – Ever wondered, how people who don’t have beards and mustaches somehow have such a convincing one on stage. The answer is simple, face-glue. Face glue is like magic when applying this kind of item.

Do everything two-three times – Once is never enough, if you are going up on stage. Everything is touched upon at-least two to three times to assure the effect. After all being on stage requires you to remain in character, and at the heart of that is the fundamental question, do you look like your character?
