  1. Chak De! India (2007): Considered by many as the best sports drama ever made in Bollywood, ‘Chak De! India’ tells the journey of Kabir Khan, an ex hockey player who is now the coach of Indian Women’s hockey team. The film is extremely well written and it explores the true meaning of women empowerment. Shahrukh Khan as Kabir Khan is phenomenal and one of his career best performances. The film is inspirational and there are several moments (including the climax scene) that will give you goosebumps.
  2. Lagaan (2001): Set in 1893, ‘Lagaan’ revolves around some people in a rural village. After being oppressed for years, they try to protest and end up having a cricket battle with the Britishers. The film contains some great characters and brilliantly portrays their journey towards victory. Asutosh Gowarikar’s exceptional direction, Amitabh Bachchan’s narrative style and A R Rahman’s soulful music make the film a must watch. Aamir Khan as the protagonist gave an outstanding performance.
  3. Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013): Directed by Rakesh Omprakash Mehra, ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ depicts the story of Milkha Singh, an Indian former track and field athlete. It deals with the journey of Milkha Singh in a brilliant way; his internal struggle, pain, life tragedy, challenges and how he overcomes them and become “The flying Sikh”. The film will make you emotional at several scenes. Farhan Akhtar as Milkha is so real that you will feel empathy for the character.
  4. Iqbal (2005): Written and directed by Nagesh Kukunoor, ‘Iqbal’ tells the story of a cricket obsessed boy who despite of being deaf and mute, dreams to play cricket for India. The film is extremely motivational and contains great writing, superb direction, beautiful music and top notch performances from all the cast members, specially Naseeruddin Shah and Shreyas Talpade.
  5. Dangal (2016): ‘Dangal’ tells the story of Mahavir Singh Phogat, a former national level wrestler who trains his daughters to overcome the social stigmas and become skilled wrestlers. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film is motivational as well as entertaining and contains some great performances from the lead actors.
