Chiranjeevi-starrer 'Godfather' mints Rs 69 crore worldwide in two days, Mani Ratnam's 'PS1' crosses Rs 300 crore mark worldwide

'GodFather', featuring Chiranjeevi in the lead, has collected an impressive Rs 69 crore worldwide in two days while 'Ponniyin Selvan 1' has touched Rs 300 crore worldwide in a week,.

Director Mohan Raja's 'GodFather', which features superstar Chiranjeevi in the lead, has managed to rake in an impressive Rs 69 crore worldwide in two days. The lavishly-made political action thriller, which was released on Dussehra, has already dominated the box office on day two as well.

During the extended weekend, the film is expected to record massive numbers since it has positive reports coming in from almost everywhere.

The film, which has Salman Khan in a cameo, collected a worldwide gross of Rs 38 crore on its opening day itself, and then minted Rs 31 crore on its second day.

The story of  'GodFather' revolves around the power struggle in a political party soon after the state's Chief Minister passes away. While the Chief Minister's daughter (Nayanthara) is not interested in taking the power, his son-in-law (Satya Dev), and a few others, want to have a power grab.

Brahma (Chiranjeevi), the trusted man of the fallen CM, is then embroiled in murky affairs with an aim to keep the greedy sharks at bay. The film has cinematography by Nirav Shah and music by Thaman.

Mani Ratnam's 'PS1' rakes in moolah

Director Mani Ratnam's magnum opus 'Ponniyin Selvan 1', based on eminent writer Kalki's literary classic of the same name, has crossed Rs 300 crore mark worldwide in a week.

Lyca Productions, which has jointly produced the film along with the director’s Madras Talkies, on Friday tweeted, "Success beyond boundaries! Thank you for this tremendous response" and posted a motion poster that claimed that the film had grossed over Rs 300 crore worldwide."

'Ponniyin Selvan 1' has also become the first film to have the biggest ever opening in Tamil cinema, and has been drawing huge crowds to the theatres. It managed to gross Rs 80 crore on its very first day of release, and within three days, the box-office numbers crossed the Rs 200 crore mark. Now, in a week’s time, the film has gone past the Rs 300 crore mark.

'Ponniyin Selvan' is undoubtedly a brilliant story, which revolves around the early life of prince Arun Mozhi Varman, who was later known as the great Raja Raja Cholan.
