3rd T20I: Yadav Finally Shines in Windies Tour

On Wednesday at Warner Park, Yadav scored 76 runs and gave India a lead in the series against West Indies.

Suryakumar Yadav finally scored big against West Indies in the third T20I match at Warner Park on Wednesday. In the first two matches, the top-order batsman went back to the pavilion with poor scores. However, on 2 August, Yadav smashed a 44-ball 76 and gave India a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.

Overview

Kumar’s innings, Rohit’s retirement

In the first innings, the Indian bowlers restricted the West Indies outfit to 164 runs by picking five wickets. While all-rounder Pandya failed to contribute much with the bat or the ball, he broke the 50-run opening stand between Brandon King and Kyle Mayers by dismissing King.

In the second innings, India had a major injury scare when team skipper Rohit Sharma retired from the match. Suryakumar Yadav took charge of the game and scored 76 runs off 44 balls to secure the victory for India.

Record

Hardik Pandya created a record

In the third T20I, Pandya became the sixth Indian men’s player to take 50 wickets along with a spell of 4-0-19-1. By reaching the 50 wickets milestone, Pandya also completed a rare double of 500 runs and 50 wickets in T20Is, becoming the 11th men’s player and 30th in T20’s history to achieve this feat. So far, Pandya has 806 T20I runs.

Apart from Pandya, as of now, the only Indian to achieve a rare double in T20I is Deepti Sharma, with 65 T20I wickets and 521 runs.

Quote

Nicolas Pooran was disappointed with his bowlers

West Indies skipper Pooran said, “I felt like we had to get early wickets and we didn’t get early wickets. I felt like we should have dragged it back early in the power-play, but unfortunately, we couldn’t get that wicket. At the (halfway stage of the game) we felt like we had enough. India bowled well... they used the pitch really good. The wicket was a bit on the slower side and we felt it would be difficult to keep scoring on it. Again, if we had gotten early wickets, it would have been a different game.”
