What Does Your Junk Drawer Say About Your Personality

We often meet people who differ vastly in their daily habits. Some people are introverts and some are extroverts, there is also a combination of both. Some people are quite disciplined in their everyday lives, their clothes are arranged neatly in shelves, and small things are kept in different sized boxes and arranged according to their size in particular drawers. Other people just don’t bother about such small things. They are somewhat spontaneous and don’t systematically follow small details. This fundamental difference in personality comes from difference in how our brain is wired. As per Jungian Personality Theory, there are three types of psychological traits which control our behaviour. Our orientation towards the world: Introversion and Extroversion. Our process of making decisions: Thinking and Feeling. Taking in and processing information: Sensation and Intuition. The last trait is the most important in controlling our daily habits. People with sensation are more precise and realistic; on the other hand, intuitive people are more imaginative and spontaneous. They don’t bother how their junk drawers are arranged, so to speak. People with sensation, especially who are introverts, are always mindful of minute details as if they absorb information like sponge. On the other hand, people who have sensation, but are extroverted, try to keep their surrounding clean and tidy. They are always punctual and cherish such situations which stimulate their senses. However, they don’t like to dwell on abstract subjects. Sensation prepares for the real world, of the present. They will follow any recipe minutely and keep detailed notes of it. They will arrange everything on their desk neatly. On the other hand, intuition gives us a sixth sense; to be able to see certain patterns, to relate outwardly nonrelated matters. Intuition enables us to understand something instinctively, without conscious effort. An artist, a discoverer, founder of a start up all need to be intuitive in nature. However, to run a start up regularly, the services of a man with sensation is necessary, so that the everyday tit bits can be taken care of. People with intuition are often day-dreamers and may literally wander from their path. We can differentiate both types of people from their everyday habits. Intuitive people don’t bother about their dress to match, do not follow recipe but does everything spontaneously. While people with sensation will keep a to-do list and follow it meticulously. They are particular about everything.
