Top Indian run-scorers of all-time

Surprise surprise! Sachin Tendulkar is the highest run scorer for India in test match cricket with close to 16000 runs at an average of 53.78.

Sachin Tendulkar

Tendulkar made his test debut in 1989 and went on to play his last test match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in 2013. He represented India in 200 test matches and scored 15921 runs at an average of 53.78. Tendulkar had the best of 248 not out and struck 51 centuries and 68 half centuries.

Rahul Dravid

Dravid was there and thereabouts as compared to Sachin Tendulkar and fell just slightly short of the Little Master with an average of 52.63. He scored 13265 runs from 163 test matches including 36 centuries and 63 half centuries.

Sunil Gavaskar

Gavaskar was an active test cricketer for India between 1971 and 1978. He became the first player in the history of test cricket to surpass 10000 runs. Gavaskar finished off his career with 10122 runs from 125 matches at an average of 51.12. He had the best of 236 not out and struck 34 centuries and 45 half centuries in his career.

VVS Laxman

VVS made his test debut in 1996. By the time he retired in 2012, he had scored 8781 runs from 134 test matches at an average of 45.97. He struck 17 centuries and 56 half centuries and was dismissed for a duck on 14 occasions in his career.

Virender Sehwag

Sehwag's test cricket spanned from 2001 to 2013. He changed the template of the game with his attacking nature at the start of the innings. Sehwag scored over 8000 runs from 103 matches at an average of 49.43. He struck 23 centuries and 31 half centuries and also scored two triple tons in his test career.

Virat Kohli 

Kohli is quickly closing in on the greats of Indian cricket. He made his test debut only in 2010 and has already scored over 7000 runs at an average of 53.41. He has struck 27 centuries and 23 half centuries with the best of 254.

Sourav Ganguly 

Dada not only led India brilliantly for the best part of the first decade of this century but was also brilliant with the bat. He scored 7212 runs from 113 matches at an average of 42.17. Ganguly had the best of 239 and struck 16 centuries and 35 half centuries.

Dilip Vengsarkar

Venky played 116 matches for India and struck 6868 runs at an average of 42.13. Vengsarkar had the best of 166 and struck 17 centuries and 35 centuries in his test career.
