Prince Harry-Meghan Markle’s love story documentary trailer released by Netflix

The project is more of an intimate account of the couple's courtship followed by tumultuous years as senior royals.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are all set to showcase their love story to the world, and subsequent retreat from life as working royals, as reported by 'Variety'.

On Thursday, after months of mystery, Netflix released a first-look trailer for the highly anticipated documentary series, which is helmed by 'What Happened, Miss Simone?' helmer Liz Garbus. The series is more of an  intimate account of the couple's courtship -- and their unprecedented access to their tumultuous years as senior royals.

Details of the trailer

The trailer starts with an array of romantic photos of the couple but none with their two kids. Garbus is heard asking the couple, "Why did you want to make this documentary?" to which Harry responds -- in voiceover -- "No one knows what's happening behind closed doors.”

"I had to do everything I could to protect my family," Harry says.

Markle, in an interview to camera, adds, "When the stakes are this high, doesn't it make more sense to hear our story from us?"

The 50-second trailer, which is set to dramatic music, also has a flash of Markle and Harry looking visibly emotional at one point  during an interview. While the release date for the series is not announced yet, it is merely described as "coming soon".

Timing of the trailer release

It cannot go unnoticed that the trailer release comes just one day after a member of Britain's royal household, now identified as Lady Susan Hussey, resigned after she made offensive remarks to a Black guest at Buckingham Palace at a private event hosted by Queen Consort Camilla.
