The Erawan shrine. The Erawan shrine is dedicated to the Thai version of the Hindu God “Brahma”, who is also known as PhraPhrom. This is one of the most unusual shrines in the whole of Thailand. It is situated in the middle of one of the busiest sidewalks of Bangkok. Tourists often flock to see the classical Thai dance, which is performed every day. History of the shrine. The shrine is said to be built in the year 1956. A Hindu brahman priest advised that a shrine dedicated to MahaPhraPhrom or Brahma ward off any ill luck. The location was also home to the Erawan Hotel, which is now known as Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok. The hotel went through many troubles during its construction, with workers getting hurt, sinking of the ship carrying the construction items, and delayed construction. So, the priest’s suggestion was agreed on, and with shrine in the place, the construction of the hotel went through quite smoothly. It is believed that due to this shrine, the curse was lifted, and ill-luck surrounding the area, and the hotel was warded off.  What makes this shrine so popular? It is believed that the shrine can good luck to all the devotees and visitors. It is also known to grant any wish, wished from a sincere heart. Locals gather around the shrine and offer the lord everything from colourful flowers to fragrant incenses and lots of presents and offerings. Brahma is considered as the lord of creation in Hinduism, and that is the reason why the shrine is named San PhaPhrom.  The shrine is especially crowded in the evenings when locals gather here after their work and pay their respects to the lord.
