Hugo Boss Sells Bathroom Slippers for INR 8,990; Internet Says ‘150 RupiyaDega’

After the expensive pair of slippers went viral, Twitterati sparked a hilarious memefest on the microblogging platform.

Luxury brands are known for charging exorbitant prices for petty products. For example, Ralph Lauren’s pocket square worth INR 78,000 to Acqua di CristalloTributo’s 750ml of water worth 68,000 US dollars; luxury brands have a unique way of gaining attention by selling their products with such unbelievable price tags.

Recently, Germany’s luxury brand Hugo Boss became the butt of all jokes after the firm listed a blue-coloured pair of slippers for INR 8,990 and that too after a “humble” discount of 54 per cent. A screenshot of the slippers was uploaded by a Twitter user named Dew@itmedew and within no time, the post went viral, which quickly spiralled into a hilarious memefest

The slippers turned into a joke because, in almost every Indian household, similar blue slippers (chappals) are found which are mostly worn while using the washroom/bathroom and are purchased at around INR 100-200 from the local markets.

One user wrote, “Even if I become a millionaire, I won’t buy a chappal for this much amount,” whereas another said, “Imagine buying slippers for 500 pm EMI?”. Several Twitter users also wrote ‘150 rupiyadega’ (will give INR 150); an incredibly famous dialogue by Manoj Joshi’s character ‘Kachra Seth’ from the 2006 Bollywood flick Phir Hera Pheri. Some Twitter users also joked that they would have to sell their kidneys to purchase the pair of slippers.
