The referee dismissed two Fulham players and their manager in the FA Cup quarterfinal matchup against Manchester United

Information

Three Fulham players were collectively dismissed by the referee in an unprecedented occurrence during the FA Cup match against Manchester United after receiving straight red cards. Willian was the first player to be sent off after the referee examined his handball incident using VAR in the 72nd minute with Fulham leading. Aleksandar Mitrovic of Fulham was given the boot shortly after for shoving the official over the outcome. Marco Silva, the manager of Fulham, departed his coaching area and was also dismissed by the referee. The referee had to dismiss him for approaching the official near the VAR monitor.

Mitrovic gave Fulham the advantage in the second half before Burno Fernandes' penalty gave the Red Devils the equalizer in the 75th minute. With a significant man advantage, United tallied in the 77th minute through Marcel Sabitzer, and Fernandes added another goal in stoppage time to give his team a 3-1 victory.

Statement by Marco Silva

"Mitro should control his emotions a bit," said Fulham manager Silva after the match. "If he wants to give me the red card, I have to accept it because he didn't listen to me at all.As I left my area, I have to accept it."

Part of Fulham's rage stemmed from a first-half penalty claim for a foul on Mitrovic that VAR did not step in to award.

Mitrovic is expected to receive the longest suspension out of the three red cards Fulham received because of what he did on the field.

"It is a shame the ref wasn't shown VAR for the first-half moments," added Silva. "It is difficult to be Fulham at Old Trafford; the VAR feels the pressure too."

Manchester United has advanced to the FA Cup's fourth round thanks to its rather dramatic victory over Fulham.
