Dos and don'ts while working from home

Adjust to working from home by following the below dos and don’ts.

Working from home or remotely has many perks but also comes with its challenges. One has to be more driven and organized for their projects and has to stay connected with their colleagues and managers to ensure open communication.

If you are considering working from home, here is a list of do’s and don’ts to keep in mind to pave your way to productivity and success.

Do’s of working from home

  • To guarantee work and life balance, have set hours for your working schedule. Make sure you aren’t checking emails after work hours at night.
  • Give your mind a break by giving yourself allotted break times throughout the day. This will also increase your focus at work.
  • Maintain regular contact with your colleagues and manager so that there is increased productivity and less confusion.
  • Create an office space at home to balance work/life system and keep distractions at bay.
  • Working from home does not mean sweatpants 24*7. Dressing appropriately will boost your productivity and also save you from any surprise video calls.
  • Always have a backup workspace in your mind like a coffee shop or library in case there is a problem with the Internet connection or some other interference.
  • Create boundaries with your family members by letting them know that you must limit the number of distractions even though working from home.
Don’ts of working from home
  • Do not do any household chores during work hours, as that can be distracting and prevent you from getting done with your work on time.
  • Avoid procrastinating by staying ahead on your schedule and keeping a work calendar to track your tasks and projects.
  • Don’t forget to move around throughout the day. You can boost your productivity by taking a small break from your workspace or doing a mini-workout.
  • Do not make your email a distraction. You should check your email at intervals throughout the day but don’t have it constantly open.
  • Do not take personal calls during work hours. If it is extremely necessary, then seek permission from your manager.
  • Do not bring work in areas like the living room where you could be distracted by family and friends.
  • Never compromise on your passions. Choose a career that brings you the satisfaction of working remotely.
