The marriage of Anant Ambani, the youngest of business magnate Mukesh Ambani, and Radhika Merchant, daughter of Viral Merchant, remained one of the year's highlights in Mumbai. The star-studded wedding occurred in the Jio World Convention Centre for Business Bay, BKC. However, while the entertainment industry was out in a joyful parade launching its small stars into the heavens on towing Lancasters, several big shots from Bollywood, including some famous movie stars, were missing in action.
Celebrity attendance was rife, and it included Bollywood stars and athletes, among others. Celebrities like Amitabh Bhachan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Rajinikanth, and many others showered their blessings on the couple and happily enjoyed the union. However, no show was as obvious and conspicuously made as much of the absence of several famous personalities.
Some of the well-known guests were Sachin Tendulkar and Hardik Pandya, who, however, expected that Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma would not be around. The couple was out of the country during the event; in this case, they were in London. They have also been rumoured to have transferred to London to make a move there permanent, although this has yet to happen. On the same note of cricketers, ditto Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma was also nowhere to be seen at the extravagant party; he was seen at Wimbledon in London on the same weekend.
The major absence was Akshay Kumar's absence from the stage. One of the popular actors recognised for his numerous films and constant attendance at ceremonies like weddings was diagnosed with COVID-19 a few days before the wedding. On July 12, 2024, he was diagnosed with COVID-19, due to which he could not promote the final schedules of his movie, Sarfira. This was his third go-around with the virus.
Kareena Kapoor Khan and her spouse, Saif Ali Khan, were conspicuously lacking, as their popularity is relatively elevated in Bollywood. It suggested that they were spending family holidays in Italy. While they came back to Mumbai before the wedding, they did not turn up for the event. Saif's kids from his first wife, Sara and Ibrahim Ali Khan, were also captured during the functions.
The absence of Aamir Khan was felt, but Ira Khan, Aamir's daughter, along with his son-in-law, Nupur Shikhare, were present at the wedding. He was the centre of attention at the Sangeet ceremony during the several days of Jamnagar entertainments, dancing Naatu Naatu with Salman Khan, Ram Charan, and Shah Rukh Khan.
Many were shocked when Kajol skipped the wedding. However, missing the party was unexpected because Kajol is rather close friends with the Ambani family. Even her husband, Ajay Devgn, and their son attended the wedding.
Other missing celebrities included Kangana Ranaut. There was reason to think that she could not come because she was shooting films and doing a political job. Earlier, she had dumped the Bollywood titans for attending the Ambani family's pre-wedding party in Jamnagar.
Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal were not present at the wedding. They married recently in a small, intimate ceremony, after which they had a reception in Mumbai. However, they received a lot of backlash for their interfaith marriage. Why they were not present at the Ambani wedding is still being determined.
Many actors were missing from the function, including veteran actor Dharmendra, his sons Sunny and Bobby Deol, and his wife Hema Malini. The Deol family is regarded as a private family, and they hardly go to parties.
