We often get fascinated by seeing the stardom and lavish lifestyle of Bollywood celebrities. But the thing is that most of them had to go through a lot of struggles and hard works to reach here. And interestingly, a number of successful Bollywood actors started out their journey as background dancers in movies.

Before coming into cinema, he worked as a background dancer in movies like ‘Taal’ (“Kahin Aag Laga Lag Jaye”) and ‘Dil Toh Pagal Hai’ (“Mujhko Hui Na Khabar”) etc.
Deepika Padukone: Deepika Padukone has come really a long way and become the “Queen” of Bollywood. But she started her career as a model and appeared as a background dancer in some movies.
Ranveer Singh: It’s a surprising fact which most of his fans even don’t know. Just watch the videos of songs like “It’s magic” from ‘Koi Mil Gaya’ and ‘Bole Chudiyan” from ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham’ with utmost concentration, and you will find Singh dancing in the backgrounds.
Dia Mirza: A beautiful and talented actress, Dia Mirza is the heartthrob of millions around the world. But before she made her debut in the film ‘Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein’, Mirza had also worked as a background dancer in several movies. One example is in the song “Jhumbalaka” from the 1999 Tamil movie ‘En Swasa Kaatre’.
Arshad Warsi: Regarded as one of the most gifted actors in Bollywood, Arshad Warsi started his career as a choreographer in the industry. He also appeared as a background dancer in a number of movies, including ‘Aag Se Khelenge’ (in the song “Help Me”) featuring Jeetendra and Kimi Katkar.
Sushant Singh Rajput: It’s so unfortunate that a brilliant actor like Sushant Singh Rajput is no longer with us today. However, he too worked as a background dancer before coming into movies. He was a part of Shiamak Davar’s dance academy and performed in several dance sequences in Bollywood movies. He appeared in the title track of ‘Dhoom 2’.
Kajal Agarwal: A renowned actress in both Bollywood and South Indian movies, Kajal Agarwal also worked as a background dancer initially. She performed in the song “Uljhane” from the movie ‘Kyun.. ho gaya na’ featuring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
Daisy Shah: Long before coming into the fame as an actress, Daisy Shah was a famous background dancer in the industry. She appeared as one of the dancers in the song “Lagan Lagi” from ‘Tere Naam’ (2003).
As they say, “Hard work always pays off”. And these actors have proved that anything can be achieved if you have passion and dedication towards works.
